Other Considerations related to Building Work

The Building Work Contractors Act 1995 (SA) deals with the building of the home itself, and building owners should consider related legal requirements regarding building consent, fences, swimming pools and retaining walls, where applicable.

Fences

Fencing is often not considered when building a new home or renovating. However, it is important to understand the legal processes involved in replacing a fence and for detailed information see Fences.

Swimming Pools

If a swimming pool is part of the building work, there are important safety requirements. For more detailed information, see Swimming Pools.

Building Consent

The regulation of building work is contained in several parts of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 (SA).

For more information, see LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND PLANNING.

Retaining Walls

Retaining walls can be a source of confusion for home owners. For more information, see Retaining Walls.

Neighbouring Land

For information on building work affecting other land (including requesting access), see Building work affecting other land.
