Generally, payers who have a low Adjusted Taxable Income are only required to pay the Minimum Annual Rate of child support.
In 2026 the minimum annual rate of child support is $551 [Child Support (Assessment) (Minimum and Fixed Annual Rates) Notice 2025 (Cth)]. This rate increases each year in line with increases in the consumer price index. If the payer has more than one family, the minimum rate is payable to each family (up to a maximum of three cases).
The Minimum Annual Rate is not payable if the paying parent has at least Regular Care of the child/ren (52-127 nights per year).
