Jury service

Under s 12 of the Juries Act 1927 (SA), a person is disqualified from jury service where that person:

  • has been convicted of an offence with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or the death penalty
  • has been sentenced to imprisonment for more than 2 years
  • in the previous 10 years has been imprisoned, detained in a youth training centre or on probation or parole
  • in the previous 5 years has been convicted of an offence punishable by imprisonment or had a driver's licence disqualified for more than 6 months
  • is on a good behaviour bond
  • has a charge punishable by imprisonment waiting to be heard.
