What is the effect of committing a further offence after a conviction has become spent?

A conviction for an offence that has been spent is not revived by a conviction for a later offence that is imposed outside of the qualification period for the first offence [Spent Convictions Act 2009 (SA) s 9(1)].

However, if the later offence was committed during the qualification period but the conviction was not imposed until after the qualification period had ended, the first offence will cease to be treated as a spent conviction while the qualification period for the later offence is running [see s 9(2)].
