Voting

In Australia, it is compulsory to vote in Federal elections and State elections. It is also compulsory to vote in a referendum to change the Constitution. A plebiscite (a non-binding vote on a specific question) will be compulsory if the Parliament decides to make it compulsory.

Failure to vote when it is compulsory to do so without a reasonable excuse is an offence and may result in a fine.

It is not compulsory to vote in local government (council) elections or in South Australian First Nations Voice to Parliament elections.
