Assistance for Victims of Domestic Violence

Legal Services Commission help for victims of Domestic and Family Violence

The Legal Services Commission has a service to assist victims of domestic violence, see the Domestic Violence Advice page on the LSC website.

In late 2015 the Legal Services Commission was granted funds to deliver a specialist domestic violence pilot program based in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide under the Federal government's Women’s Safety package.

The LSC Domestic Violence Unit was established in the Northern suburbs and operates collaboratively with the Lyell McEwin Hospital and the Northern Domestic Violence Service.

In 2019 the Legal Services Commission was granted funds to operate the Women's Domestic Violence Court Assistance Service. This service assists women and children experiencing domestic and family violence to navigate legal matters relating to domestic violence, such as intervention orders and related tenancy orders. Prior to 2019, the WDVCAS was operated by the Victim Support Service.

Relationships Australia (SA) - Victims of Crime Counselling and Support

Relationships Australia (SA) provides free and confidential counselling and support to victims of crime as they move through the criminal justice process. Support is available to both adult and child victims, and victims of domestic violence, including:

  • anyone directly harmed by a crime;
  • anyone harmed as a result of witnessing a crime;
  • parents or care givers who have been harmed as a result of a crime against their child;
  • relatives of a person who has died or suffered harm as a result of a crime.

To be eligible to access the services, the crime must be reported to the police, or in the case of family and domestic violence, reported to the police, GP or other professional.

Women's Safety Services

Women’s Safety Services SA provides free and confidential help to women and their children experiencing domestic and family violence across South Australia through the Safe at Home Program. Support can be offered and the crime doesn’t need to have been reported to police. To be assessed for Safe at Home services, telephone: 1800 800 098
